Here's one of the reason's I went into music. My first high school
band director and especially the junior high director at the time took
an interest in me, lent me records (scary) and introduced me to jazz,
fusion, and jazz rock. I didn't know half of what they were talking
about, but when I heard this song, I knew I wanted to play music like
this. Noble, powerful, and rocking. More interesting than most of the
rock I was listening to and more earthy than the classical stuff I had
heard. Play classical or play rock? Why choose? This is the Rochester
Philharmonic Orchestra with Chuck Mangione conducting, adding electric
bass, trap set, keys, sax,and acoustic guitar. And Gerry Niewood, soprano
soloist, so amazing and skilled - what a musical influence. Brass, strings,
and winds rock!!
