YOUR MUSICAL Personality
How personality affects How you learn, play, and sing
A person’s personality, their approach to and view of life, affects what they see and hear in music, how they practice and play or sing, what they want to get from music, what they can easily or with difficulty put into their performing. Learning music is about you personally becoming a musician, not just a random person or student being able to sing or play. The fact is that many people work on music, even as students taking lessons, and yet only a few actually learn to perform well, even if just for themselves. And they may take lessons for years trying to learn to no avail. You want to be one of those who actually becomes a singer or player, average or awesome, so it’s very useful to know the areas you will excel in – and have trouble with, and how to deal with those potentials. This is so that you, personally, will be that one person in 20 who ends up playing and singing, skillfully, just like you want it to be. Even professional musician instructors benefit greatly from understanding their predispositions as they approach mastering their art. Teaching based on what your strengths and weakness are, your skills and foibles, produces more progress and learning in lessons than instruction that doesn’t know how students tick.
